Fine Art Photograpy

I have 3 new prints available in my print store in the photographic gallery. I love nostalgic moods and distressed textures. These photos seemed to lend themselves well to that sort of interpretation. Most of the distressing and aging effects were done with PS captured brushes. Hope you enjoy them.

Long Exposure Photography

I Found this extensive collection of long exposure photos recently that took me back to one of the really cool reasons I bought my first ever SLR. It was a Mamiya Sekor with manual exposure. I still remember the day I walked into the store and said “I want that one.” In addition to being able to screw on different lenses, shutter speeds of my choosing were now possible, yeah verily even the bulb setting. I was in heaven and anxious to find a low light scene, mix in a little extra shutter time and enter the magical realm of creative long exposure photography. To say I didn’t know what I was doing is an understatement.

Had I access to this collection for inspiration I might have done much better. These effects aren’t always possible with the garden variety point and shoot. It requires a tripod, the ability to set very long shutter speeds and a little creativity. I spent some time here looking over the selection asking myself, “now how did they do that one.” Lots of fun and inspiration so have a look!

PhotoWalk Winners

If you are at all familiar with Scott Kelby (NAPP, Kelby Training, Photoshop TV, Layers Magazine etc., etc.) you’ve probably heard about the World Wide PhotoWalk he held this past weekend. I followed it intently even though I was unable to participate.  It strikes me that nothing could be more inspiring than to walk with other passionate photographers as a group and actively share that passion.  The next best thing is to peruse these winning shots from the event. Inspiring! Makes me want to go on a photo walk of my own.

Better Black and White

Improving your black and white photos is anything but black and white. If you’ve tried to find good techniques for doing this you know they are as numerous as the pixels in your image. So add this tutorial to your list, but don’t rush, its a good one and worth learning.
